Team

A Product of the Product

Our team of personal trainers, class instructors, accountability coaches, and office staff believe in what we do and use our programs for their own health and fitness goals. We practice what we preach and are ready to lead by example.

Every member of our accountability coaching team started as a client, some losing well over 100 pounds with the Meltdown program! Your coach has lived it, breathed it, and triumphed and continue to set and reach new goals with programs offered by Next Generation Personal Training and Fitness and are ready to help you do the same!

Adam Schaeuble

Owner and creator of THE MELTDOWN

  • Home Town: Bloomington, Indiana
  • Favorite Quote: "Make at least one definitive move daily toward your goal. Aim at perfection in everything, though in most things it is unattainable; however, they who aim at it, and persevere, will come much nearer to it than those whose laziness and despondency make them give it up as unattainable." - Bruce Lee
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Come to this program with an open mind and be ready to be coach-able. The program will work if you work the program.

At nearly 315 pounds Adam decided enough was enough and set out to educate himself on better and healthier ways to lose weight. Using his body as the experiment, through much trial and error Adam hit upon a golden nugget of combined exercise and nutrition that fit the fitness bill. He has since gone on to practice and perfect this fat loss technique for mass audiences. After trials and training at other local facilities the program proved to be such a success that in 2008 Adam opened Next Generation Personal Training and Fitness. Adam is able to maintain a high level of fitness and continues to learn and experiment with advanced techniques to keep the program on the cutting edge. Adam holds a degree in Exercise Science from IU and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Kerri Hojem

Instructor and Personal Trainer

  • Home Town: Belmont, NY

Originally from New York, Kerri moved to Bloomington In 1999 and loves it here! She walked into NGPT back in August of 2011 and wasn't sure this program was for her. Thanks to Trish's reassurance she signed up for a 4 week meltdown and hasn't looked back since. Working out is a hobby for Kerri and she has always been in decent shape, but a year later she is down 9% body fat and in the best shape of her life.

Bill Howard

Bootcamp Fitness Coach

  • Home Town: Bedford, Indiana
  • Favorite Quote: Be Coachable
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Bill will give you the same advice that Adam gave him when he asked for tips on making this program work.... Be coachable. The people that are training, teaching, and coaching have all been through this program. They know what works, and what does not, and see first hand peoples' transformations. Do the program exactly the way it is set up, do not modify it to make it "yours". Your program was not working to produce the results you want, if it were, you would not be here.

Bill has worked out with Adam for years; and although Adam pushed him twice to do the Meltdown program, Bill still resisted. It wasn't until after going to the finale of the second Meltdown Fat Loss Bootcamp and seeing the amazing results that Bill decide to do it. Bill became a Bootcamper in the 3rd Meltdown which reached far beyond his expectations. "In my wildest dreams over the next 15 months I would have never expected the results that I have achieved." Bill had a major Meltdown.

  • Favorite Quote: “Fun is good”. Dr. Seuss
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Challenge yourself. Do one thing in class that you didn't think you could do, then do it again. You will surprise yourself when you discover what you can do. Now give me a plyo push up!

I have been coming to NGPT since January 2012 when Alisha and I finally decided to listen to our friends and join. We had been hearing about this place from several people since we decided to change our lives and get moving again, I only wish we had listened sooner! What I found at NGPT was that everyone is accepted and welcome. I came to NGPT having already lost 45 pounds on my own and was looking for more muscle gain, endurance and just a change of pace and environment. I certainly got all of those things and then some! I rediscovered how to challenge myself and how much fun it is! I really love working out with such a great group of people who laugh with you and push you all at the same time. If I'm not at the gym or work I can usually be found snuggling one or more of the five spoiled 4 legged kids we have.

Marcey Tidwell

Accountability Coach and 3P Coordinator

  • Home Town: Brunswick, Maine, Navy brat, Bloomingtonian by happy accident
  • Favorite Quote: "If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done." -- Thomas Jefferson
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Elastic is a fair weather friend. Tug on your sports bra before your first class. (If you don't want to use that, I can come up with something serious ;).

Marcey began as a client in January 2011 when the governor refused to give her a reprieve from her 40th birthday; her husband of 19 years, Michael, was drawn in soon after. She loves any 6am class and is the only person requesting 5am slots. She loves being able to do push-ups and knowing that she helped make a speed limit on Jacob's ladder necessary. She views her 'food coach' role through the lens of her work as an RN: educating, knocking down barriers, and caring about your success.

Mandee Ferris

Accountability Coach and Office Assistant

  • Home Town: Temple Terrace, Florida
  • Favorite Quote: "You've gotta be good, so you can be bad"
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Come in ready to commit yourself to this program 100%. Leave the excuses at home and you WILL get the results you are looking for.

Mandee started at NGPT weighing over 300 pounds with the January 2013 Bootcamp. She knew people that had gone through the program, she had seen the before and after pics and now it was time for her journey to begin. She thought she was going through an 8 week boot camp, nothing more. What she didn’t expect was to gain a second family and to have the best year of her life. In 2013 she lost over 120 pounds, ran a half marathon, inspired friends and coworkers to get healthy, became an accountability coach and the list goes on. It was a year of firsts and it was just the beginning. When Mandee isn’t in the studio, she enjoys shopping, hanging out with her families four dogs and some more shopping.

Trish Surfus

Instructor and Office Assistance

  • Home Town: Sheboygan, Wisconsin (what a great name) and Avon, Indiana
  • Favorite Quote: “This too shall pass”
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Suspend your disbelief and see the possiblities

Trish began NGPT in 2010 with a little hope and modest expectations. After her first eight-week Bootcamp, she ramped things up and lost 102 pounds in 20 weeks. Since then, she has lost an additional sixty pounds on her own. She is in the best shape of her life and working hard toward her goal of weighing literally half of where she started. Trish has a background in higher education specializing in leadership development, student affairs, marketing, and event planning. Her philosophy is grounded in leading with integrity, having a healthy disregard for the impossible, and developing relationships first and programs second. She is excited to be a part of the NGPT team, a group that gave her the support she needed to change, well, everything. Trish is a class instructor and holds the Meltdown Level One and Level Two Instructor certifications, is a certified SPIN instructor, and hold a TRX Training Credential. She has taught over 1,000 hours of group exercise at NGPT and worked with hundreds of clients that inspire her every day!

Lauren Rapacki

SPIN Instructor

  • Home Town: Massapequa, New York
  • Favorite Quote: “Always remember that you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, & smarter than you think.” Winnie-the-Pooh (that’s one smart fictional character if you ask me.)
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: 1) Try something new every month to shake your routine up a bit (a new class, a new instructor, move from am to pm class, etc…) AND 2) when you try something new, don’t just try it once, but try it at least two/three times to allow you to make a more informed decision if something is or isn’t for you. That is how long it took me to get over the soreness of that darn spin saddle and fall in love. Maybe it is love at first spin, squat, or lift for some people, but usually it takes a while (i.e., more than once) to warm up to a new person, new piece of equipment, or new timing etc…. I was the same way with running and rowing. Don’t hesitate to lean; we have a great support system in all aspects of program: nutrition, fitness, and accountability.

Lauren started at NGPT in February of 2013, almost a year and a half after her first significant weight loss of her adult life (nearly 50lbs) at another gym and weight loss program. After months and months of (mostly) maintaining her initial weight loss, but failing to lose those last dreaded 10-20 lbs, she was looking to shake-up her workout and nutrition routine in an effort to reach her ultimate weight loss goals. She wanted to try out spinning and the flexibility of the spin program at NGPT suited her needs. She took one class with Megan and was instantly addicted to the burn. Lauren, a former elementary math coach for the schools in Greene County, IN and math teacher from the East Coast, is currently a PhD student in Mathematics Education at Indiana University (Bloomington) and teaching undergraduate math and math methods course in the School of Education; so it was a natural progression to merge two of her loves: spinning and teaching when Megan went on maternity leave. Lauren never expected to be given the chance to teach at NGPT but LOVES the opportunity she has been given to pay the recognition, support, and motivation forward that she received and continues to receive as a client. Lauren is a former college athlete (lacrosse and field hockey) and therefore is no stranger to working out but since becoming a client and team member at NGPT has continued to set and reach new fitness goals. Lauren completed the Baltimore half marathon, keeping pace with her much taller brother, in October of 2013 and is currently training with other NGPTers for a Women’s half marathon in Chicago in August of 2014. Although she resisted for a while, she has also picked up strength training, which is her newest obsession. And Lauren has finally lost those last few hard to shake pounds after recently completing her first NGPT bootcamp, which has enabled her to better understand the successes and struggles of other clients as well. Lauren believes it is cathartic to break a sweat everyday and loves taking 6am classes to get her day going right. There is no doubt, if you are in the gym at the same time as Lauren: you will hear her (and if you do say hi!). Lauren realized through her bootcamp experience that anything is possible and next she hopes to attack her other “bucket list” items like running a full marathon and even completing a triathlon.

Erin Moore

Instructor and Personal Trainer

  • Home Town: Long Beach, Indiana
  • Favorite Quote: Make Progress, Not Excuses!
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: I recommend starting by participating in a Meltdown or Bootcamp program. This will set you up for success, with lots of support and accountability, and allow you the opportunity to meet and connect with others quickly. This option will aslo provide you with all of the foundational information and details that you need regarding fitness and nutrition. Rest assured, as a team, we will support you every step of the way as you begin on this journey! At NGPT you will find friendly, encouraging faces to cheer you on, and push you. The bottom line is, the program works! Be brave, take that leap of faith, and give it a shot! You will never regret the decision you made to sign up for this program and join this community! It will be the best investment of time and money that you have ever made and spent because that investment is in You, Your Well-Being, Your Health, and Your Longevity! You ask yourself... 'What if the program doesn't work for me, or I fail, or I dont like it?' And I ask you this... 'What if it DOES WORK for you, and you DON'T FAIL, and you LOVE IT?!' What are you waiting for?!

Erin moved to Bloomington with her spouse and children in 1999, to complete undergrad and graduate school at IU. She came to NGPT in May 2012, as a client, after unintentionally stumbling upon the Studio while visiting a boxing gym, that at the time, was located in the same building. Looking to make progress with her fitness and lose a few pounds, she asked a lot of questions. Skeptical, having never heard of the program, she debated the cost, the risk if it didn't work, and then finally asked herself the question... 'What If it DOES work?!' Her answer to that...It will have been worth every single penny spent for the investment of her health....was the game changer. And she took the leap and signed up for an 8 week Melt-Down program. On her MD Erin lost inches, pounds, and fat, gained strength, and endurance, not to mention new friends, and a fun, supportive community, and most importantly taken away solid, sustainable, life long and life changing habits regarding her nutrition, health, and fitness, that even after 2 years, she is practicing and implementing faithfully. Erin loves taking classes at the studio, especially TRX, Strength Matrix, and Combat Cardio. Erin also loves being a part of this amazing Team, and making that connection with clients as she instructs a weekly class at NGPT, and helps with the body fat weigh ins. She is inspired and motivated every single week by the perseverence, strength, and continued progress of her fellow NGPTers, this Team, and the Next Gen Community as a whole!

  • Favorite Quote: "Pain is weakness leaving the body"
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: 1) Make the most of your initial Bootcamp and learn all you can! A second Bootcamp is a great way to focus on applying what you just learned. That four-month strong foundation and newly formed habits will carry you far! 2) Some people can eat the same thing day in and day out - not me! If your food plan gets boring, CHANGE it! There are many great Meltdown chefs running around the studio to give you tips. Make recipes, not excuses! :)

Lauren joined NGPT in July 2011 at the recommendation of a friend and fellow NGPT client. Her catch phrase about her past is that she “went from baby fat to the regular kind” and engaged in little to no exercise prior to her Bootcamp experience. While full of nerves and lacking exercise confidence, Lauren jumped in hoping for the best. She never dreamed, and certainly didn’t come into the program expecting, that she would lose about 120 lbs. and 20 inches from her waist while gaining strength, definition, and friends! Lauren is a Bloomington native who spent years teaching in local elementary schools and now works at the Kelley School of Business. She enjoys girly activities that don’t cause sweat (she gets enough of that in workout classes!) like shopping, as well as going to the drive-in, attending live theater and musicals, and traveling. You can find Lauren in evening classes and some weekend mornings – she likes to mix it up and takes a variety of classes, but some of her current favorites are Spin, Advanced Burn Fusion, and Yoga! Lauren began serving as a nutritional accountability coach in November 2012 and enjoys the opportunity to guide, challenge, and encourage new clients toward their fitness goals with a focus on clean nutrition. Her nutrition philosophy is that eating healthy can be and IS delicious! Want proof? Check out her weekly recipe blog: Friendly Feasting with Coach Lauren!

Hannah started with NGPT in 2011 and has been a consistent client since. She started coaching in 2012 prior to moving to Chicago. She moved back in 2013. She loves classes, PT's and running...because of NGPT she was able to train and run her first half last year and is currently in the best shape of her life. She started coaching again in 2015 as well as instructing classes. She is a full-time nanny and works part time for DistinXion, Inc. a non-profit organization located in Bloomington. • Recommendations to Potential Clients: FOLLOW THE PLAN! This system works if you are coachable! This is no time to redesign the system to fit your own circumstances! You might still see some results; however nowhere near what they would be! If you are struggling or need advice on how to handle something....speak up! Everyone is here to assist and support you in your transformation process! Nowhere else can you get this much support, especially from people who truly understand what you are going through. Lastly, try new things during your workouts! Push yourself in each class to improve upon at least one thing! You will not regret it!

She joined NGPT at the advice of a medical doctor who knew she was trying to lose weight. Her doctor invited her to an orientation and she immediately knew this was right for her. She was blown away when she dropped 18lbs in her first 8 week bootcamp! She was thrilled with the rate at which the weight came off! Little did she or her doctor know the impact this program would have on her health. She had spent 25 years of her life dealing with severe migraines sometimes hitting as much as 15 per month. Thanks to her doctor’s referral and this program, she now has her life back headache free! Outside of NGPT, she works as a Doctor of Chiropractic coaching patients in improving other aspects of their health. She loves assisting others with a variety of health transformations! She knows the impact this has had on her life and she enjoys "giving back" to others. For fun, she enjoys competing in triathlons and duathlons where her goal is to finish happy, healthy, and not last. She has a retired agility dog, Hannah, which she spends a great deal of time with. She loves to travel, read, knit, and garden.

  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Seriously, if I can do this - YOU can do this! Be coach-able and ask plenty of questions. Then hang on as the new you emerges and you begin to feel like a kid again!

Ray began his journey at NGPT in July of 2011 and Boot Camp 10. Ray came to NGPT primarily as a last resort. A prior health assessment had returned results that were indicative of pre-stroke, pre-heart attack, pre-diabetes and high blood pressure. Not only was his health at risk, he wanted to drop a few pounds before his youngest daughter Lindsey's wedding, Ray was surprised at the results he saw during the first two weeks of boot camp dropping nearly eighteen pounds! - then he caught the fitness bug and hasn't stopped since. Losing nearly fifty pounds during boot camp 10, Ray has stayed with the program and can be seen regularly during early morning classes. Ray's "get it done" attitude is contagious and he has led numerous other boot camp and Meltdown clients on his popular journey to Healthyville. As with other members of the NGPT team, Ray is a "product of the product" and looks forward to working out on a regular basis with friends, clients and members of his 3P team. Ray is a lifelong resident of Bloomington. He enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, as well as Labrador Retriever "Harlee" and Yorkshire Terrier "Dudley".

  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: NGPT is unlike any other gym you have ever been to. There is no need to feel embarrassed, because everyone is here to support and encourage you, not judge you. Leave your preconceived notions at the door and come ready to work and you will see the results. Be coachable, follow the plan, have fun, and enjoy the journey of a lifetime. Quit wishing for it and start working for it!

Tobie joined NGPT in December 2013, weighing in at just over 410 pounds. Having been overweight her whole life, the 400 pound mark was a line she had told herself that she would never cross. When this fear became a reality, she knew she had to find a way to make some life- saving changes. Tobie had tried several diets in the past, without much sustained success. She heard about the Meltdown from a coworker and decided to give it a shot, as there was nothing to lose, except for maybe a few pounds. Her meltdown started the Monday after Thanksgiving and continued through the holiday season. Tobie hit the ground running from day one, losing a total of 40.2 pounds during her 8 week meltdown. For the first time in years, she actually lost weight during the holidays rather than gaining the usual 5-10 pounds. Her hard work and determination continued to persevere and by September 2014, only 10 months after joining NGPT, she is down over 140 pounds and 20 inches off of her waist. Tobie’s life has been enriched by NGPT in so many ways. She has made many new friendships, become part of an amazing community (a second family, really), developed a new lifestyle full of healthy habits and was given the tools to regain control of her life and start living it to its fullest. In her spare time, Tobie enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, shopping, and traveling. You will find her at the studio most days of the week. Don’t be shy, please come up to her and say hello!

  • Favorite Quote: "There is nothing wrong in change if it is in the right direction. To improve is to change, so to be perfect is to have changed often." - Winston Churchill
  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Plan, Plan and plan some more - it provides focus. Be honest with yourself and remember this is a lifestyle change - not a diet.

I have made the weight loss journey a couple of times in my life and had always fallen back to old bad habits. I initially started with NGPT in 2009 - Bootcamp #3. With this journey, I had always become obsessed with the exercise part but never really developed correct eating habits. ("I can have that "cheat" because I'll just work harder tomorrow at class") But then life happened and took me many different directions -I wasn’t able to maintain my gym/class routine and my eating habits were still the same and the weight came back. I had gained back almost all the weight I had lost and was in a real ‘funk’ so I decided I wanted to get out of the funk and get healthy once again. As a lost child, I returned to NGPT in the Spring of 2015. It was as though a day was never missed - I was back home. This time I am focused on maintaining correct eating habits and helping others to do the same.

  • Recommendations to Potential Clients: Be open to trying new foods and new recipes. Remember that "Fail to plan, then plan to fail" is very true especially with the food. If you plan your meals the night before, you will be a huge success!

I joined NGPT in April, 2011 and it was the best decision ever. Our family was faced with getting new health insurance and we were all overweight, had high blood pressure, and were pre-diabetes. After going through 2 boot camps, our numbers were back in the healthy zone and our insurance premiums dropped to a manageable amount. Since then, we continue to be active and love being a part of the supportive NGPT family. One of our favorite things to do each week is to ride our bikes from Church Lane B-Line Trail to the Bloomington Farmers Market, have a cup of coffee and buy some great veggies for the upcoming week, and then ride back. Before joining NGPT, we would never have considered this kind of activity. NGPT has made me strong, both mentally and physically! YEAH!
